Planning digital signage in new buildings
Building owners looking to include digital signage as part of the refurbishment process may see it as a method to boost branding by posting interesting and new content.
Digital signage is a category of signage that uses LED and LCD screens that display images, text or videos as content. These signs can be found inside and outside of establishments such as restaurants, shopping centres, office buildings, train and bus stations and so on.
If digital signage is going to be included, it should be considered during the initial design phase.
Installing LED and LCD screens in any part of a building can have an impact on the building’s physical features and electrical wiring. Mounts or platforms, electrical wiring and other cables, should be prepared beforehand for easier installation.
The location should also match its purpose. To maximise its effect, make sure there will be no glare, and people can see it easily when they walk in.
The fast pace of technology development means it may be necessary to make upgrades to digital signage. Hardware and software should be flexible and compatible with other systems. Owners should understand capabilities and limitations of their systems in terms of upgrades.
